Stress at work, the ageing process and spending plenty of time outdoors can all impact on the wrinkles and deep folds that are cast across our facial features. These can often make us feel self-conscious and self-aware in social situations, however, it is possible to recreate a more youthful appearance thanks to facial fillers.
How do facial fillers work?
Facial fillers are delivered in the form of an injection, usually inserted into or just below the skin. They add volume to your skin and increase your skin’s hydration – this is how they fill out wrinkles and smooth the overlying skin easily.
Where on my face can I have facial fillers?
There are numerous areas across your face where facial fillers are suitable to use:
- Lips (to increase volume)
- Cheeks (to increase volume)
- Facial scars
- Across the forehead
- Wrinkles around the eyes (crows feet)
- Wrinkles around the mouth
- Skin creases between the nose and mouth
What facial fillers are used?
The most popular fillers used contain Hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in your skin. The effects of these are temporary and you’ll find that the results will last for around six to 12 months before you need to book in for your next visit.
What pain relief is used for this treatment?
At Clarence Clinic we use the leading temporary dermal filler brands, both of which feature a local anaesthetic to help with pain relief, although you will also be administered with a topical local anaesthetic cream on your face to further reduce any discomfort. If needed, a dental injection of local anaesthetic can also be used.
Can I use this treatment in conjunction with anything else?
Facial fillers are very commonly paired with muscle relaxing injections – this is particularly effective for rejuvenating the face, especially in younger patients.
You may want to consider a surgical alternative too, depending on the results you want to achieve. A brow lift or facelift could both be viable options, although this can be discussed in further detail during a thorough consultation.
Another option is a fat transfer procedure. This uses your own fat, harvested from another area of your body, to fill out facial lines and increase volume to create a younger appearance. The effects of fat transfer last longer than filler injections so this may be a more long-term solution if this is what you require.
